The Ceremony was arranged to Honour the Student Branch and the Student organizers who accomplished the IEEE 125th Anniversary Region10 Student Congress, 2009 with their volunteerism and efforts. This special occasion was graced by the presence of Prof(Dr.) Mini S Thomas, Professor, Dept. of Electrical Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, India who came down to the college to congratulate the team. Currently she is the Region10 Student Activities Committee Chair and was the General Chair of the Student Congress. Other members on the dice were Prof. V .P Devassia, Pricipal, College of Engineering Chengannur, Mr.Anilkumar CV, Branch Counsellor, IEEE CEC, Rahul Raj, Chairman, IEEE CEC and Arjun R Pillai, Vice Chair of the Student Congress. Around hundred students from the college including non IEEE students attended the function.
The ceremony started at 1.00 p.m with the Code of Ethics read out by Ms. Indu Unni. Mr. Anil Kumar C.V, Branch Counsellor, IEEE CEC, welcomed the guests and gathering. He took the opportunity to appreciate the Student Team behind the congress. This was followed by a presentation on the Student Congress by Ms. Pratibha R, Publicity and Public Relations Chair of the Congress. The presidential address was delivered by Prof.(Dr.)V.P Devassia, Principal, College of Engineering Chengannur. Finally, The Guest of Honour, Dr. Mini S Thomas addressed the gathering. She expressed her delight in visiting the college. She appreciated the work done by the Student Organizing Team from the college who made it possible as the co-organizers of the congress by working miles away from the organizing team from National University of Singapore. She shared with us her experience of planning and conducting the congress. This was followed by the main highlight of the day The Certificate Awarding, Mini Ma’am presented the Certificate of Honour to the College which was accepted by our Principal, Prof(Dr.) V.P Devassia on behalf of the college. Later on the Student Volunteers who represented the college at Singapore were given with the Certificate Of Appreciation. A memento was presented to Prof. Mini as a token of gratitude for her help and support. She presented a memento to the college for the cooperation as the co organizers and a souvenir of her visit. The Function was concluded by Vote of Thanks by Mr. Rahul Raj, Chairman, IEEE CEC.
The awarding ceremony was followed by a highly inspirational and motivational presentation by Mrs. Mini.S.Thomas on ‘Why should we love IEEE’. She, with the friendly air of a mentor and charm of a powerful orator, stressed on the importance of IEEE as a forum for networking and establishing contacts. She emphasised on the importance of management and leadership skills in today’s world and said that working with committment and no selfish motive will lead us to success always. The session concluded with this message. The function was really a great experience and motivation to the budding volunteers of the college.
