CURRICULUM VITAE (RESUME)
.

As you all know a Resume/CV is an integral part of job hunting. Since we are at the verge of starting ours its always good to be ready, and  the sooner that it is, the better. So, here are some tips to keep in mind while preparing a Resume, you could find lots of online material, there is no harm in going through them. But it is always nice to see an example CV.
.
Some Tips:Resume Format: Here are some practical tips for formatting your resume:

    • The best resumes are usually no more than two pages in length, with critical information summarized in the top third of the first page. Information is presented clearly with plenty of bullet points.
    • Wide borders and white space between paragraphs help making it easier to read
    • Use a simple font. Do not use a decorate font. Times New Roman and Arial parse most accurately and are the “standard” fonts for business communication, which your resume is.
    • Use a standard font size. For business communications, fonts of 10 and 12 points are the norm.
    • Avoid using charts, pictures, tables or graphs in your resume. These rarely make it through unless you are applying for a creative job.

.
Profile

    • It sits at the top of your resume, just below your name and contact details.
    • In two or three sentences, you need to highlight one or two important areas of your experience and pinpoint two or three key skills and abilities. (Make sure these are relevant to the advertised job )
    • You can also mention your career goals, or what you’re seeking in your job.

.

Achievements

    • The best achievements to include are those that can be measured in financial figures, statistics, numbers of people or units, as these show how you can help to bring about results.
    • Achievements can also be differences that you’ve made to the way systems are set up or how organizations are run.
    • Reports you’ve written or awards you’ve won also count as achievements.
    • List around six achievements in order of impact.

.
Education/Qualification

    • Simply list what you’ve attained, along with the place of study and the dates when you qualified.
    • Include all your degrees.
    • Also include any professional qualifications and memberships you’ve gained.

.
IT and other skills

    • Include skills that are relevant to the job applied for.
    • If typing and language skills are relevant, include these as well.

.
Personal details and hobbies

    • Add it at the end of the resume and include your date of birth, driving license (if relevant)
    • For some jobs your outside interest might be of high value such as your personality, leadership potential and team working skills.

.
and keep in mind…..

    • Its always better to write in the third person format.
    • While including your email addresses make sure they are decent… avoid funny ids
    • Write community services you have involved yourself with also professional and managerial activities at campus.
    • You can give name(s) of two referees with whom you have associated academically or for any other sociocultural activities. It will also give a positive input.
    • language used in your resume is highly important….. do make sure your spell checks are working perfectly!!!
    • check your resume multiple times!!!!!
    • and most importantly DO NOT BLUFF in your resume…

FAQ: Can/Should I add photograph to my CV/Resume?
.

Note from Nisha miss:
.
A resume with photograph is almost equivalent to your application form for a job. I feel :

  • It is well and good to add your photograph in the resume.
  • I also feel it is right to enter the details of professional/ managerial activities which you have involved yourself in, during your campus life.
  • You may also brief about the community related activities which you have rendered for the society.
  • You can give name(s) of two referees with whom you have associated academically or for any other sociocultural activities. It will also give a positive input.
