Onam '09 Celebration – Detailed Report

.

Hey guys,

.

Onam is a time to show off our vast cultural heritage and rich variety for all the Keralites who celebrate it with much vigor than any other festival.

.

The CEC Onam Celebrations were held on the 28th of August 2009 amidst great cheer and the cultural extravaganza witnessed a mass participation as never before in CEC. The event was attended by all the batches in CEC for the first time in history, including the fresher batch, and all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college.

.

The inauguration was held at 9:30 am at the college Centre court, presided over by the Principal and in the presence of the Department heads and the Senate Executive. The gathering was welcomed by Mr. Arunanand T.A, the college Chairman. The Principal Prof. (Dr.) V.P. Devassia gave the Presidential address which was followed by felicitations by Mr. Rubon L, the Staff Secretary and Mr. Jaydeep K, the Senate advisor. The General Secretary, Mr. Jibin John expressed the Vote of thanks.

.

The cultural programmes got underway after the inauguration at 10:30 am.

.

The programmes included:

.

Onapattu, which sings of the great history behind the festival being celebrated and

Thrivathira by the girl students which showcased the dancing talent of CEC

The “Onapookkalam Competition” had participation from all the batches, competing for the most cherished prizes. The competition got underway at 8:00am as planned, and each of the classes decorated their respective classrooms with astonishing designs, bringing out the creative talent of CEC. The CEC pookkalam was laid, for the first time, right near the College entrance.  The pookkalam competitions went on till 11:00am and the results were announced at 3:00pm.

.

The main attraction of the Onam celebrations was the “Shingarimelam” which was performed by the most renowned Arts club of Alapuzha, led by Mr. Anoop. The performance was the best ever in CEC history and was the most reviewed event of this year’s celebrations. The performance left the entire audience dancing on their feet’s and cheering to the beat of the drum.

.

The celebration extravaganza for CEC reached its helm when the ‘pulikali’ team which included four ‘onapuli’ and a ‘shikkari’ entered all the classrooms of CEC, joining the celebrations within each of the classes. All the students joined the procession, as it rocked to floors of CEC.

.

The competition spirits in CEC are at a high yet again, as two competition events drew CECians standing on their toes. Again the din of the cheer made everything else to dwarfing itself.

.

The ‘Musical Chair’ competition was conducted for the lady teachers of the college and the teachers showcased their adapting skills and resilience in front of a mass audience who were thrilled to see their ‘stern and serious’ gurus having some freak-out party in the centre courts. Ms. Sindhu of the Computer Science faculty emerged the champ.

.

A massive ‘Onasadya’ was served for the entire college within the same ‘panthal’. The staff and students enjoyed the sumptuous Onam feast which was served to them. The Sadya received much acclaim for the faculty and student community.

.

The ‘Tug of War’ contest took place among the students and the event was a fine success, as the students fought to the cheer of the audience, and each shout tightening their grips on the rope and making it harder for the other team. It was a pure show of some skill and muscle power.

.

On concluding the report, I am happy to feel that all the events went as per the schedule and that we were able to complete the events right in time.

.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) V.P.Devassia the Principal, Mr. Jaydeep J.V the Senate Advisor, the Heads of Departments, Mr. C.R. Ajithsen, Lr. in Physical Education, Sl. Gr. and all the teaching and non-teaching staff of CEC for their help and support. I express my praise to the Almighty for his blessings which guided us in the successful coordination of the event.
