14th Annual Sports Meet, 2010

REPORT


Introduction

In this era of computerization and globalization where our lives have become so stressful, sports and games have just not become a getaway for recreation, but it also has imparted values like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, sacrifice and accountability. This is exactly what the 14th Annual Sports Meet has left behind for each and every one in College of Engineering, Chengannur.

Venue & Date

The games events started on 4th January, 2010 (Tuesday) and continued till 12th January, 2010 (Wednesday). The Sports Meet was held from 14th -16th January, 2010 at Municipal Ground, Thiruvalla. The Sports meet started off with a march-past at 9:30am. Thiruvalla Municipal Chairman, Sri. Cherian Polachirekkal received the salute. Our Principal, Prof. (Dr.) V.P. Devassia hoisted the flag and Sri. Cherian Polechirekkal announced the 14th Annual Sports Meet open. The detailed schedule of the games and Sports Meet is attached alongside.

Participation & House Structure

All the students were distributed among 4 houses viz. Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, with each house having an average of 216 members, lead by its respective Captain and Vice-Captain. This year, the Sports Meet witnessed an increase in participation in all events with an equally high spirit of vigor and enthusiasm.

.

Events

There were 13 game, 11 field and 17 track events. Yellow House became the second runners-up, Red House the runners-up and the Blue House the overall Champions of the 14th Annual Sports Meet. The following students were awarded prizes for their individual excellence:

  1. Best Throwball Player : Ms. Irin Varghese (2011-CS-C)
  2. Best Basketball Player : Mr. Nirmal (2011-EC-B)
  3. Best Football Player : Mr. Arun V Soman (2010-CS-D)
  4. Best Cricket Player : Mr. Sarath Vallathol (2010-CS-C)
  5. Best Volleyball Player : Mr. Jayan K R (2010-CS-D)
  6. Athletic Champions (Boys) :         a) Mr. Akhil C M (2012-CS-D)

b) Mr. Jerin George (2010-EC-B)

7.   Athletic Champion (Girls) :  Ms. SaliniM T (2010-CS-D)

Recreational Events

Other than the routine events, a friendly tug-of-war match was held between the Computer Science & Engg branch and Electronics & Communication branch, for both boys and girls. The CS branch came out as winners in both.

Support & Staff

The entire meet was well supported and coordinated by both the teaching and non-teaching staffs. Discipline, integrity and self-esteem were never let down. It was made a point to keep the ground and surroundings clean from the beginning till the end of the meet.

Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony was presided by Prof. Philip Jacob (Sr. Lectr., Mar Thoma College, Thiruvalla). The other Guest-of-Honor was Mr. Suresh (Coach, KCA). Mr. C R Ajith Sen(Sr. Lectr. in Phy. Edu., CEC) welcomed all to this curtain dropper, followed by a vote-of-thanks by Mr. Philip Cheriyan (Sports Secretary, CEC). Prof. Philip Jacob and Mr. Suresh together gave away the prizes for the individual winners and the overall champions.

Conclusion

This meet leaves behind no stain in the prestigious history of CEC but opens up a doorstep for future glories to come. I, hereby, also thank the Principal, HODs, Senate Advisor and all others for their support, prayers and advices to make this meet a, yet another, success.
