Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is one of the premier universities in India. CUSAT is academically structured into 9 faculties, namely Engineering, Environmental Studies, Humanities, Law, Marine Sciences, Medical Science & Technology, Science,Social Science and Technology. Admission to various management programs are based on Common Admission Test (CAT), DepartmentalAptitude Test(DAT), Test for Lateral Entry (LET). v CUSAT CAT 2010 Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to the various academic programmes for the year 2010-11 as listed below. Admissions are based on * CUSAT Common Admission Test (CUSAT CAT 2010) * CUSAT Departmental Admission Test (CUSAT DAT 2010) * CUSAT Test for Lateral Entry (CUSAT LET 2010).

All applicants intending to apply for the academic programmes listed under 1.1, 1.2., 2, and 4 are required to submit their applications through Online Registration whereas for programmes listed under 3.1, 3.2, 3.3. and 3.4 the application forms can be had from the concerned departments/schools. Eligibility conditions and other particulars are given in the detailed notification published in the website www.cusat.nic.in. Candidates who have appeared/are appearing in full for their final qualifying examinations are also eligible to apply. All UGC specified degrees, diplomas etc. awarded by UGC approved Statutory Universities are recognized by this University for admission to various courses. However, Distance Education Courses will be considered as recognized, only if they are further approved by the Distance Education Council, New Delhi also. On-line registration will commence on 11-01-2010. Those who are applying for First Degree Programmes in Engineering & Technology (B.Tech and 5 year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics) : the CAT will be conducted on All India basis with test centres in New Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jamshedpur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Ranchi, Varanasi, Kota and all District Head Quarters of Kerala. Those who are applying for PG Programmes / both First Degree Programmes including BB.A – LL.B (Hons.) / and PG Programmes : the CUSAT CAT will be conducted only in the Centres at all the district head quarters of Kerala. Lateral Entry Test will be conducted only at Kochi Centre. The DATs are conducted at Kochi by the individual Departments./Schools/Centre of the University and the dates will be announced later. The Cochin University reserves the right to cancel all or to shift or merge any of the notified test centers for administrative reasons including dates/rules and regulations relating to programmes of study, eligibility, reservation, admission criteria, fee structure and other relevant matters. All disputes related to CAT shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Courts at Kochi only. Appearance in the CAT or figuring in the Rank list does not ipso facto confer any right for admission to a particular course unless found suitable as per the eligibility criteria as amended from time to time. CUSAT CAT 2010 Admission & Eligibility Details 1. Admissions Through CUSAT CAT 2010 (Common Admission Test) Applicants for the following programmes are required to take the CUSAT CAT 2010, except where specifically indicated otherwise 1.1 First Degree Programmes 1. B.Tech. in Civil Engineering**, Computer Science & Engineering**, Electrical & Electronics Engineering**, Electronics & Communication Engineering**, Information Technology**, Mechanical Engineering**, Safety & Fire Engineering**. 2. B.Tech. in Polymer Science & Engineering. 3. Five Year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics Educational Qualification for a, b & c above: Pass in Plus Two Examination of the State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together. 4. B.Tech. in Instrumentation Technology Pass in Plus Two examination of any State/National Board with Mathematics,Physics and Chemistry as or any other examination accepted as equivalent theretoby CUSAT. The candidate should have secured a minimum of 60% marks inMathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together, with at least 55% in Mathematicsseparately. 5. B.Tech. in Marine Engineering ** (Residential Programme) 1. Pass in Plus Two or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% marks & minimum 50% for Mathematics and should have obtained 50% marks in English at 10th or 12th standards. For SC/ST candidates, no relaxation in qualification. 2. Vocational/Diploma students are not eligible to apply. 3. The Maximum age limit prescribed is 25 years as on 1st September 2010. 4. Eligibility for admission will be based on directions from the DG Shipping (India). B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building. Pass in Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with a First Class securing a minimum of 50%marks in Mathematics as well as for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together. 6. 5 Year LL.B. (Hons.) (Cost sharing course) 1. Pass in Plus Two examination with 60% marks in Science / Commerce group or 55% marks in Arts/ Humanities. 2. Should not have completed 21 years of age on 1st January of the year of admission. (** Self Financing) 7. SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission to the courses mentioned under 1.1 above if they have pass marks in the qualifying examination except in B.Tech. Marine Engineering Programme. 1.2 Post Graduate Programmes 1. LL.M. Bachelor’s degree in Law with at least 45% marks. 2. M.A. Applied Economics Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with 55% in Part III (Economics and Subsidiaries)or 60% with B.Com, BBA, BBM with Economics as one of the subject or B.Sc.Mathematics or Statistics with 65% marks. 3. M.A. Hindi Language and Literature B.A./B.Sc. degree with Hindi as a subject of study with at least 45% marks in Hindi. 4. M.B.A. (Full-time / Part-time*) A degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. * conditions apply. 5. M.B.A. (International Business) A degree in any subject recognized by the University with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. 6. M.C.A.*** offered by CUSAT and its recognized institutions. Any graduate with Mathematics as one of the main or subsidiary subjects or graduate in Electronics/Computer Science/Computer Applications/Engineering/ Technology with aggregate 55% marks in all subjects other than Languages and Humanities. 7. M.Sc. Applied Chemistry B.Sc. degree with Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry/Environmental Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry/ Petrochemicals as main, with Mathematics as one of thesubsidiary subjects with at least 55% marks in the main subject. 8. M. Sc. Biotechnology Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Life Sciences including Agricultural and Medical Science or Chemical Science or Chemical Engineeringwith a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. 9. M.Sc. Electronic Science (with specialisation in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Microwave Electronics and Computer Technology) First class B.Sc. degree with not less than 60% aggregate marks in Electronics or Physics. 10. M. Sc. Environmental Technology Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries, or Graduate in Engineering (Civil/Public Health/Environmental or Chemical) (Stream I) or Life Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/Zoology/Botany/ Microbiology (Stream II) with 55% marks. 11. M. Sc. Hydrochemistry B.Sc. degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries or B.Sc. degree of any University in Kerala with Polymer Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry/ Petrochemicals/Environment & Water Management as the main subject and Mathematics and Physics/Computer Science, as subsidiaries with 55% marks in the respective main subject. 12. M. Sc. Industrial Fisheries Bachelor’s degree in Zoology/Botany/Fisheries with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects. Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries includes bachelor’s degree in Industrial Fisheries, Aquaculture/Fishery Science/Industrial Fish and Fisheries/BFSC in Nautical science. 13.

M. Sc. Marine Biology B.Sc. degree with any branch of Life Sciences such as Aquaculture, Bio-chemistry,Biotechnology, Botany, Microbiology and Zoology as a main subject or B.Sc. degree in Fishery Science with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects. 14. M. Sc. Marine Geology Bachelor’s degree, in Geology/Maths/Physics/Chemistry with 55% aggregate marks for optionals. 15. M. Sc. MarineGeophysics B.Sc. degree with at least 55% aggregate marks in (a) Geology (main) with Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry as subsidiaries (b) Physics (main) with Mathematics and Geology or Chemistry or Electronics as subsidiaries (c) Mathematics (main) with Physics and Geology or Chemistry as subsidiaries. 16. M. Sc. Mathematics B.Sc. degree with Mathematics main, with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together. 17. M.Sc.Meteorology B.Sc. degree with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiary subjects and vice-versa. 18. M. Sc. Oceanography B.Sc. degree with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiary subjects and vice-versa. 19. M. Sc. Physics B.Sc. degree with Physics main and Mathematics as subsidiary with at least 55% marks in Physics. 20. M. Sc. Statistics B.Sc. degree in Mathematics or Statistics Main with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together.(*** Regular and Cost Sharing) SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission to the courses mentioned under 1.2 above if they have pass marks in the qualifying examination.
